These senbei (rice crackers) are made from a special type of thick yet soft, domestic rice known as Uruchi rice. The rice is polished, dried for 12 hours, then double-baked to enhance its flavors and add a beautiful brown color. The shape of each cracker is unique as skilled craftsmen make them one by one by hand.

Kakinotane a popular type of rice cracker made from glutinous mochi rice. These kakinotane are seasoned with organic tamari soy sauce and other traditional Japanese seasonings to create a balanced umami filled snack.

Yatsuhashi from Kyoto are among the most famous souvenirs from Japan. Typically made from a combination of rice flour and sugar flavored with cinnamon, these crunchy, baked yatsuhashi also include kinako (roasted and ground soybeans), which adds a sweet, nutty flavor similar to peanut butter.

 

BLACK SOYBEAN KINAKO YOKAN

UME (JAPANESE PLUM) GLACÉ

These special sweet and sour treats are made from a rare variety of Japanese plum known as Benisashi ume. Prized for their tart flavor and juicy texture, the plums are fermented and preserved using only sugar, then aged for over 6 months.

 

SOUR YUZU PEELS

Yuzu is Japan's beloved citrus fruit with a tart yet sweet flavor. Here the aromatic, peel has been thinly sliced then artfully stewed in natural granulated sugar to achieve a balance sweet and sour treat.

Nothing will make you feel like a child like a warm sweet bowl of zenzai. Zenzai is a traditional Japanese dessert soup made with azuki (sweet beans) and plump hot mochi (glutinous rice).
