Our Bamboo Steamer

For a very long time, various delicacies of (South) East Asian cuisine have been gently cooked and served in multiple layers using special bamboo baskets. To this day, the traditional and very simple preparation method is indispensable.

Our small bamboo steamer, with a diameter of 8 inch, is suitable for up to 2 people. The bamboo baskets of the large steamer measure 10 inch diameter and can feed up to 4 people.

Before cooking, we recommend soaking the rice in water for a few hours to shorten the cooking time. For preparation in the steamer, line one or two baskets with the supplied cotton cloths, depending on the desired amount of rice, fill them with rice or other ingredients, and cover with the lid. Then fill a pot or wok with water so that about 0,79 inch of the bottom is covered. Place the steamer inside and turn up the heat. Alternatively, you can place the bamboo steamer on a smaller pot filled with water. Important: During the cooking process, make sure there is always enough water.

After cooking, the steamer and cotton cloths can be easily cleaned with a sponge, water, and, if necessary, some dish soap.

Note

The cooking time significantly depends on how long the rice has been soaked. If the rice is soaked for about 4 hours, the cooking time is approximately 30 minutes.

Caution

Never let the water run out while cooking, as the bamboo basket can burn. If you want to cook meat, fish, or vegetables, it is advisable to either brush the steaming surface with oil or cook the food on lettuce leaves.

Sturdy Construction

Our bamboo steamer is made of high-quality, durable bamboo.

Easy Cleaning

Simply clean our bamboo steamer with hot water and then pat it dry with a cotton cloth.

How long rice takes in a bamboo steamer?
With a soaking time of four hours, the rice in the bamboo steamer still needs about 30-40 minutes.

When do you add the salt to the rice when cooking in the bamboo steamer?
Since the rice is cooked in the bamboo steamer through the rising steam and does not directly come into contact with the water, it's recommended to add salt to the rice after it's cooked.

Can you cook rice simultaneously in both tiers of the bamboo steamer?
The bamboo steamer is perfect for the simultaneous preparation of rice and fish or vegetables. However, it's also absolutely no problem to prepare rice on both tiers.

Should a pot lid be placed on the pot where the bamboo steamer sits or not?
The pot where you place the bamboo steamer doesn't need to be covered with a lid. The rising steam is sufficient to cook the rice.
