Chu-Hi originated in Eastern Tokyo in the late 1940s. Chu-Hi was originally created by mixing shochu, carbonated water, and lemon juice. The idea came from Highball and was originally called "shochu highball," and was later shortened to Chu-Hi. Chu-Hi is made today with Shochu and your choice of carbonated fruit juice. It is sold as a canned drink in Japan and is a staple alcohol beverage.
